Most of us enjoy a drink, but the key is drinking in moderation. Excess alcohol can be harmful to health, and if you are trying to lose weight it is important to remember that alcoholic drinks are not without calories and can be very fattening. The NHS recommends that:
  • Men should not regularly drink more than three to four units of alcohol per day;
  • Women should not regularly drink more than two to three units of alcohol per day.
You should also take a break for 48 hours after a heavy session to let your body recover. One UK unit is 10ml or eight grams of pure alcohol. To find out more about how units are calculated visit www.units.nhs.uk for more information.
