What Is Fat?
Why the Fuss about Fat?
Today in the UK it seems as if we are obsessed with fat. Every day we are being fed with messages about our unhealthy diet and our high fat consumption, and how this is impacting on our health and the health of future generations. It's not surprising therefore that fat is now generally perceived to be Public Enemy No 1. But is fat really all bad?

Interestingly dietary fat is relatively rare in nature but in small amounts is valuable to the human body. In the Stone Age our ancestors never knew when they would have the next meal and as a result we have evolved to love the taste of fatty food, so we can stock up when these types of foods are available and have energy reserves for days when food is scarce. This is why most of us today really enjoy cream, butter, chocolate and crisps with creamy dips etc, perhaps a little too much!

There is no denying the fact that in the UK the average diet is too high in fat. But should we cut fat out altogether?
