The Basics
Crash dieting is dangerous and weight loss is unlikely to be maintained. As you will see in the 'Choosing A Diet' section of this website the most successful weight loss programmes are actually based upon adopting a healthy sensible diet. This needs to be one that is varied and balanced. A good diet will help you lose weight and improve health.
The Basics
- Cut down on fat and sugar - less fat can reduce the risk of heart disease
- Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, lean meat, bread, cereals and pulses
- Don't be too strict with yourself. A diet which prohibits the intake of small amounts of your favourite treat such as chocolate or crisps is doomed to failure.
- Try not to shop when hungry as this can result in unhealthy impulse purchases
- Try to make time to prepare meals from raw ingredients. Cooking can be fun and a good way to relax. It is also the best way to avoid over processed convenience foods that are full of hidden sugar, fat and calories.
- Try to eat sitting down, and whatever you are eating take time out to enjoy it properly
- Learn to listen to your body and understand when you are sufficiently full - don't feel you need to eat everything on your plate.
